This large-scale equestrian proposal involved the updating and improvement of the existing facilities at Carisbrooke Stud, with the applicant also proposing to set up a legacy foundation so the stud could continue operating, providing high quality stock and apprenticeship training for youngsters.

As the proposals involved extensive remodeling of the existing stud, including the creation of an entirely new isolation yard, WHLandscape were required to undertake an assessment that not only looked at the individual components of the development separately, but also in respect of their collective setting within the North Wessex Down National Landscape.

It was found that with sensitive mitigation, that respected the site’s equestrian use and the unique landscape of the AONB, the proposed development could be successfully integrated into the existing stud. The strategy prepared by WHLandscape was driven by the bespoke nature of the development, with tailored landscape proposals being drawn-up for each of the proposed development areas.

The application was approved, with WHLandscape being subsequently appointed to produce the landscape implementation and management detail for the stud.
