WHLandscape were requested to assess the potential landscape and visual, and arboricultural effects associated with the proposed demolition of an existing barn and its replacement with of a low carbon dwelling under Paragraph 84 of the National Planning Policy Framework, in this case bullet point (e), which states:

the design is of exceptional quality, in that it: - is truly outstanding, reflecting the highest standards in architecture, and would help to raise standards of design more generally in rural areas; and - would significantly enhance its immediate setting, and be sensitive to the defining characteristics of the local area.

Working in association with PKA Architects and taking cues from the character of the receiving landscape, as well as the results of the Landscape and Visual Appraisal, we produced a landscape proposal to enhance the woodland setting of the site, including the surrounding Local Wildlife Site, to ensure that the whole development was sensitive to the defining characteristics of the local area.

The scheme was approved, with no objections being raised by the council’s landscape officer and the submitted landscape proposal being conditioned to ensure an appropriate landscaped setting for the development.
