West Coombeshead Farm
Dairy Unit at West Coombeshead Farm, operated by the Duchy College Rural Business School.
The Dutchy College Rural Business School is an organisation that combines education, training, business support and applied research for rural industries. Being one of the most successful colleges to offer land-based qualifications, it requires appropriate facilities to deliver its curriculum.
As such, WHLandscape were appointed to look into the potential landscape and visual effects associated with a scheme to expand the dairy facilities at West Coombeshead Farm for the benefit of the college. Similar proposals had previously been submitted to the Local Planning Authority, however they did not sufficiently address the needs of the college.
Having considered the previous applications, WHLandscape successfully argued that the revised scheme would have a reduced impact. Moreover, a new mitigation strategy was developed to address the expansion of West Coombeshead Farm, with a focus on integrating the development into the landscape through naturalistic landscaping as opposed to the use of large blocks of screen planting present on previous schemes.
The application was approved, with no landscape objections being raised.
